Medical Assistant – UChicago Medicine, Flossmoor
Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system. This 100% onsite Medical Assistant position will work alongside the Multi‑Specialty Surgery team at the Flossmoor clinic in the greater Chicagoland area. The role includes specialized and primary care for family members of all ages.
Essential Job Functions- Fulfills patient care responsibilities such as checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam rooms, assisting with transfers and dressing, collecting specimens including phlebotomy, preparing patients for examination, collecting history, performing screenings, assisting physicians and nurses with procedures, charting, relaying instructions, answering calls and providing pertinent information.
- Fulfills clerical duties such as sending and receiving medical records, obtaining lab and imaging reports, completing forms, receptionist coverage, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting copays, and managing and updating patient charts.
- Fulfills environmental duties such as setting up instruments, cleaning exam rooms, maintaining infection control, cleaning sterilizers, ordering supplies and maintaining records.
- Fulfills organizational duties including respecting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and reporting issues to the supervisor.
- Performs clinical medical‑assisting duties per state law, including asepsis, sterilization, instrument handling, vital sign checks, drug administration, minor surgical assistance, biohazard disposal, therapeutic modalities, laboratory procedures, OSHA compliance, CLIA‑waived testing, specimen handling, and electrocardiography.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a certified Medical Assistant program.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Phlebotomy training and license, where required.
- Minimum of one year recent experience in a medical office or facility.
- Experience with practice specialty and ability to partner with teams of all sizes.
- Certified Medical Assistant.
- Strong verbal communication, prioritization, and organization skills.
- Proficiency with PC applications including Excel, Word, and EPIC.
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
- Ability to handle stress in a fast‑paced environment.
- Skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact, and courtesy.
- Physical ability to lift, transport, and stock supplies and instruments.
