Overview
Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Medical Group, as a Medical Assistant at our Dearborn Station clinic. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including managing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting with transfers, preparing for exams, collecting patient history, performing screenings per provider guidelines, assisting physicians/nurses with procedures, charting, relaying instructions to patients and families, answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, including sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports and hospital notes, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, collecting co-pays when required, and updating charts to ensure completeness and proper filing.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned, including setting up instruments and equipment, cleaning exam/procedure rooms between visits to maintain infection control, cleaning sterilizers, ordering and restocking supplies, and keeping appropriate records.
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, including respecting/promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and communicating problems to the immediate supervisor.
- Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that may vary by state law, including asepsis, sterilization, vital signs, exam preparation, pharmacology, injections, prescription verifications, minor surgery assistance, waste disposal, therapeutic modalities, patient instruction, laboratory procedures (OSHA, CLIA), point-of-care testing, and ECG. Medical assistants must adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of a certified Medical Assistant program
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Phlebotomy training; phlebotomist license and work experience if required by practice
- Minimum of one year of recent experience in a medical office/facility
- Experience with the practice specialty
- Ability to partner with teams in small to large practice groups
- Certified Medical Assistant
- Good verbal communication, prioritization, and organizational skills; ability to maintain an organized filing system
- General working knowledge of PC software (Excel, Word) and EPIC
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment
- Discretion, tact, and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers, and physicians
- Physical ability to stock, lift, and transport supplies and instruments

Full-Time 1.0 FTE - Shift: Days, 7:50 am – 5:00 pm; one late day per week; one Saturday per month 7:50 am – 12:00 pm

In this role, you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week with a rotating schedule between 7:50 am and 7:00 pm, and no on-call shifts. You will be scheduled 100% at the Dearborn Station Clinic with weekend coverage (Saturday) approximately once every four weeks.
