The BYS RBT Intern position is a structured, tiered internship level designed to support professional growth from entry level RBT Intern through advanced clinical development roles. RBT Interns provide high-quality Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to children ages 2–21 in center-based and in-home environments while participating in a progressive training and supervision model aligned with BACB standards.
This role integrates direct clinical service delivery with supervised professional development activities to prepare staff for increased responsibility, clinical leadership, with the possibility of long-term career advancement within BYS.

Tiered Internship Levels & Time Commitment
Level 1: RBT Intern- Weekly direct client therapy
- Focus on foundational clinical skills, ethical practice, and treatment plan implementation
- Weekly direct client therapy
- Increased involvement in case support, supervision exposure, and applied clinical decision-making
- Weekly direct client therapy
- Emphasis on case conceptualization, staff support, caregiver collaboration, and BCBA-readiness skills Progression through levels is determined by tenure, demonstrated mastery of assigned curriculum sections, successful completion of competency assessments, performance evaluations, and clinical leadership approval.
- Deliver direct ABA therapy services in accordance with individualized treatment plans
- Implement skill acquisition programs and behavior reduction protocols under BCBA supervision
- Collect accurate session data in Central Reach and complete required insurance documentation
- Maintain ethical standards, HIPAA compliance, and BACB guidelines
- Meet and maintain targeted direct therapy hours as determined by clinical leadership
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and assigned professional development activities
- Support daily center operations (opening/closing procedures, organization, safety protocols)
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Uphold BYS core principles, policies, and procedures
- Adhere to the current professional and ethical requirements for Behavior Analysts, as outlined by the BACB
- Complete BACB-approved Acceptable Activities aligned with the BCBA/BCaBA Task List
- Adhere to BACB Experience Standards and Monthly Fieldwork Requirements
- Actively engage in individual and group supervision
- Complete competency-based assessments and supervision curriculum requirements
- Demonstrate progressive mastery of clinical, professional, and interpersonal skills
- Maintain timely and accurate supervision documentation
- Assist BCBA with case supervision activities under direct oversight
- Support staff training and caregiver education initiatives
- Participate in case conceptualization, problem-solving, and treatment planning discussions
- Demonstrate leadership behaviors and professional judgment appropriate to level
- Enrollment in a qualifying Master’s degree program with coursework started toward BCBA or BCaBA certification, as required to accrue supervised fieldwork hours under BACB standards
- RBT certification required or obtained within designated timeframe
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Effective time management and organizational abilities
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and clinical demands
- Proficiency with Central Reach and Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Commitment to learning, feedback, and continuous professional growth
- Strong interest in working with children with autism and related developmental needs
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct
