Registered Respiratory Therapist – 6 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. shift, weekend and holiday rotation.
Registered Respiratory Therapists perform evaluations and administer respiratory care treatments in accordance with physician orders and protocols. The RRT provides education to patients with cardiopulmonary disabilities, injuries, and/or diseases.
Responsibilities- Assembles and checks equipment for proper function; identifies malfunctions and takes corrective action.
- Collects and evaluates additional pertinent clinical information by assessing patients’ overall cardiopulmonary status.
- Conducts therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate spontaneous and artificial ventilation and to maintain airway, including care of artificial airways and removal of bronchial pulmonary secretions.
- Determines the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory care plans, recommends modifications, and participates in plan development.
- Evaluates and monitors patient response to respiratory care.
- Explains care plans, therapy, and goals to patients and maintains records of communication.
- Initiates, conducts, or modifies respiratory care techniques in emergency settings.
- Performs procedures listed in general and critical‑care competency checklists and interprets results.
- Protects patients from nosocomial infection by adhering to infection‑control policies and procedures.
- Provides care within the established scope of practice for Respiratory Therapists at SBL.
- Serves as a resource for complicated respiratory care cases or procedures and provides in‑service education to the department.
- Active Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the State of Illinois.
- Associate’s degree from an AMA‑approved Respiratory Therapy program.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- ACLS certification (within 90 days of hire).
- BLS or CPR certification (within 90 days of hire).
- NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (within 1 year of hire).
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification (within 1 year of hire).
- Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Registered Respiratory Therapists with at least two years of critical‑care experience may perform adult endotracheal intubation in a code‑blue setting after completion of intubation training and competency.
Compensation: Estimated range $30.56 – $47.37 per hour, based on experience.
