Job Title: Registration Clerk – Emergency Department
Department: Patient Services
Location: Sarah Bush Lincoln Emergency Department
Hours/Shift: PRN, 8–20 hours per week, 2nd shift
Compensation: $17.79–$27.57 per hour, based on experience (starting at $17.79)
Required Education: High School Diploma
Responsibilities- Answer Emergency Department incoming phone calls.
- Assemble Emergency Department discharge packets.
- Assist patients with Limited English Proficiency using language interpretive program/service.
- Collect copayment at time of service as applicable.
- Cover other registration clerk locations as needed.
- Follow all recommended infection control measures.
- Monitor waiting room for an appropriate and timely flow of patients needing to be registered or admitted.
- Obtain correct patient insurance, demographic information, and other relevant data needed for registration.
- Obtain patient signature on all required forms.
- Perform duties outlined in policy & procedure during certain codes (e.g., Code Alert, Code Plan
D). - Move between front‑end and back‑end registration duties on a four‑hour shift interval.
- Pre‑admit patients in advance of arrival.
- Promote awareness and enrollment in Financial Assistance, patient portal, Advantage 50, and all other hospital programs.
- Receive patients, including via ambulance, into SBL’s HIM system, connecting patients to the correct medical record.
- Register patients for outpatient and inpatient services at the Health Center in a timely manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the registration waiting area.
- Verify electronic insurance coverage.
- Show patience and compassion to visitors and patients waiting or receiving emergent care.
- Handle non‑clinical patient requests as able.
- Visually monitor entrance, canopy/vestibule, and ensure staff presence in the Emergency Department lobby at all times.
- Work directly with Patient Services co‑workers, Emergency Department staff, and other hospital staff to facilitate a positive health care experience for the patient.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work in a 24/7 high‑volume, fluid environment.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and mobile computer carts.
- Basic understanding of insurance verification processes.
- Physical ability to move between front‑end and back‑end duties.
- Adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
- Knowledge of hospital admission policies and procedures.
