Clinic Surgical Scheduler Job Description
Clinic Surgical Schedulers are responsible for scheduling a high volume of surgeries. This position coordinates with multiple departments to schedule surgeries, including corresponding tests and pre‑op procedures done in the outpatient/inpatient setting. The Scheduler provides instructions and documentation to facilitate the scheduling and performance of surgical procedures. Responsibilities include checking medical necessity of procedure and test, and performing prior authorization as required.
This position serves as a liaison between office, procedural area and the patient. In addition, this position performs clerical and scheduling duties as needed by individual clinic/office setting and as directed by Clinic Supervisor or Director.

Based on experience, starting at $18.68 per hour
- Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Creates Referrals as needed for patient/contacts patient with appointment information.
- Manages all insurance information other than traditional insurance (Work Comp/liability).
- Obtains current patient demographics and insurance benefits for the Health System.
- Obtains physician’s written orders and ensures orders match scheduled procedures.
- Perform prior authorization when required.
- Remains current on new procedures performed by their departments, including preparatory instructions and scheduling restrictions.
- Schedules all Surgeries, including corresponding Tests and Procedures, ordered by provider.
- Serves as a customer service representative and acts as a liaison among patient, family, staff, and medical staff. Initiates problem resolution as needed.
- Works closely with the physician, procedural departments and radiologists to ensure proper scheduling of procedures.
