Addison Group is partnering with our client to identify an experienced Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations for a growing global organization. This role offers the opportunity to oversee complex multi-jurisdiction payrolls, drive process improvements, and serve as the organization's Workday Payroll subject matter expert while leading a high-performing payroll team.

Job Description

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end administration, compliance, and optimization of payroll operations across the United States and in other countries. This individual will provide hands‑on leadership, manage a team of payroll professionals, and leverage Workday expertise to ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll processing. The ideal candidate is both strategic and operational, capable of leading initiatives while remaining actively involved in day‑to‑day payroll activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead full-cycle bi-weekly payroll processing for approximately 5,000 employees across the US and international employees
  • Oversee payroll components including salaries, hourly wages, commissions, bonuses, equity compensation, benefit deductions, and garnishments
  • Serve as the primary Workday Payroll expert, managing payroll configuration, testing, maintenance, and process optimization
  • Create and maintain payroll reporting, including custom workforce analytics, year-to-date earnings, deductions, vacation accruals, workers' compensation, and retirement-related reporting
  • Ensure accurate payroll tax administration, reconciliations, and compliance across all operating jurisdictions
  • Manage payroll audits, including 401(k) audits and regulatory reviews, while maintaining strong internal controls
  • Partner closely with Benefits, HR, Finance, Tax, and HRIS teams to ensure payroll accuracy and alignment across systems and processes
  • Oversee payroll data integrity, timekeeping integrations, and system enhancements to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Develop payroll policies, procedures, and controls to support organizational growth and minimize risk
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a payroll team, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and proactively implement necessary payroll updates
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including high-volume, multi-state payroll processing
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience with direct reports
  • Advanced proficiency in Workday Payroll, including payroll processing, reporting, configuration, and testing
  • Experience creating and running complex payroll reports and analytics
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and payroll compliance
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred
  • Experience processing payroll in California and knowledge of California labor laws is a plus
  • Works closely with Benefits, HRIS, HR, and Finance leadership
  • Highly visible role with significant impact on payroll operations and compliance
