Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe-based payroll applications supporting large-scale payroll processing.
- Analyze payroll business requirements and translate them into technical solutions using mainframe technologies.
- Develop and modify programs in COBOL, Assembler, Easytrieve, and related languages.
- Create, maintain, and execute JCL for batch payroll processing and reporting.
- Develop and maintain online payroll transactions using CICS, including screen development using CICS Maps / CA‑TELON.
- Design, write, and optimize DB2 and IMS database access, queries, and programs.
- Support scheduling and automation of payroll jobs using CA Scheduler (or equivalent workload schedulers).
- Work with Rocket Software Mobius for payroll report management, archive, and retrieval.
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve payroll processing errors, production incidents, and data discrepancies.
- Participate in system testing, payroll parallel runs, regression testing, and production migrations.
- Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, security standards, audit requirements, and SLA commitments.
- Collaborate with business analysts, payroll operations, QA, infrastructure, and production support teams.
Strong hands‑on experience with Mainframe technologies, including but not limited to:
- COBOL (Batch and Online)
- Assembler
- Easytrieve
- CICS and CICS Map / BMS / CA‑TELON
- JCL
- DB2 and IMS (DB/DC)
- CA Scheduler / CA‑7 (or equivalent)
- Rocket Software Mobius
- Experience supporting enterprise payroll systems in a mainframe environment.
- Strong understanding of payroll concepts such as gross‑to‑net calculations, deductions, taxes, benefits, and retro processing.
- Knowledge of data file structures, VSAM, and mainframe utilities.
- Prior experience working on government, public sector, or large enterprise payroll systems.
- Experience with production support, on‑call rotations, and payroll cut‑off cycles.
- Familiarity with SDLC, change management, version control, and mainframe deployment processes.
- Exposure to modernization or integration of mainframe payroll systems with distributed platforms.
