What you'll do
  • Lead the integration of various Appian projects into a unified modernization program for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), ensuring consistent governance and prioritization of delivery efforts.
  • Establish and refine an Appian Center of Excellence aimed at facilitating project intake, prioritization, architectural evaluations, and the adoption of the platform across multiple VA initiatives.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for Appian solutions that align with the mission objectives of the VA, focusing on areas such as Community Care Referrals and Virtual Care initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Office of Information Technology (OIT), business operations, and clinical leadership to translate operational needs into scalable workflow and case management solutions.
  • Manage cross-functional teams that include Appian developers, architects, business analysts, quality assurance specialists, scrum leads, and integration resources to ensure project success.
  • Create a reusable delivery model that encompasses design standards, component libraries, integration patterns, release controls, and performance metrics to streamline processes.
  • Supervise program-level risk management efforts related to legacy dependencies, security approvals, platform sprawl, and the adoption of enterprise changes.
  • Support executive communications, governance reviews, roadmap planning, and reporting on the outcomes of modernization efforts to ensure transparency and alignment with strategic goals.
Requirements
  • At least 7 years of experience in IT program management, digital transformation, or enterprise platform delivery is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience leading IT initiatives or clinical workflow programs within complex enterprise or federal environments is essential.
  • Previous experience with the VA, VHA, or other federal healthcare organizations is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of workflow modernization, case management, integration delivery, and Agile methodologies is necessary.
  • Experience working in regulated environments with security, privacy, and compliance requirements typical of federal systems is crucial.
  • Familiarity with VA operational domains, such as Community Care, referral management, telehealth, or related Veteran service workflows, is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead matrixed teams, influence senior stakeholders, and connect delivery decisions to mission outcomes is vital.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; certifications in Scrum, SAFe, or Appian are preferred.
Nice to have
  • Experience with low-code platforms, particularly Appian, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of integration processes involving Appian and enterprise systems, especially in healthcare contexts, is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies that enhance program delivery is a plus.

Practical notes
  • This role requires in-office attendance 4 to 5 days a week to promote collaboration and teamwork among team members.
  • The base salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $300,000 USD, with the potential for a government clearance differential and discretionary bonuses based on individual performance.
