At Horace Mann, we're committed to helping educators and their families recover when the unexpected happens. We are seeking an experienced Bodily Injury Adjuster II to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve auto bodily injury claims while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

In this role, you'll independently manage a diverse inventory of bodily injury claims, applying your claims expertise to evaluate liability, injuries, medical bills, and damages. You'll collaborate with customers, attorneys, medical providers, and business partners to ensure fair claim resolutions while adhering to company best practices and regulatory requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced claims professional looking to expand their technical expertise and prepare for increasingly complex litigation and high-exposure claims.

Key Responsibilities Claims Investigation & Evaluation
  • Verify coverage, investigate liability, and determine the scope of damages for assigned bodily injury claims.
  • Conduct thorough, detailed, and accurate investigations to evaluate claim facts and determine appropriate resolutions.
  • Evaluate accident facts, injuries, medical records, and medical bills to determine causation, liability, and claim value.
  • Analyze claim information and move claims toward timely and appropriate resolution.
Claims Resolution & Negotiation
  • Negotiate settlements in accordance with company best claim practices and applicable state regulations.
  • Manage an assigned inventory of bodily injury claims while working independently and making sound claims decisions.
  • Gain exposure to claims involving litigation, partnering with leaders or peers as appropriate.
  • Maintain ownership of the claim throughout the claim lifecycle while providing a seamless customer experience.
Customer Experience & Communication
  • Provide proactive, transparent, and timely communication to customers, claimants, attorneys, and other involved parties.
  • Deliver an extraordinary customer experience through professionalism, empathy, and responsive service.
  • Effectively utilize claims operating systems and communication tools to support claim handling activities.
Professional Development & Collaboration
  • Demonstrate leadership and conflict resolution skills when working with customers and business partners.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to ensure efficient claim resolution.
  • Continue building technical knowledge of bodily injury claims, litigation, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Experience handling bodily injury claims or related casualty claims.
  • Ability to investigate coverage, liability, and damages independently.
  • Strong understanding of insurance policies, claims handling practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required state adjuster licenses.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Preferred
  • Prior bodily injury claims experience.
  • Experience handling attorney-represented claims.
  • Exposure to litigation claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing a high-volume claim inventory.

Additional Information
  • Obtain and maintain all required state adjuster licenses.
  • Periodic travel may be required.
Pay Range
  • $57,500.00 - $79,100.00 annually + bonus

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
