Domestic Tax Director | Tax Leadership Opportunity
A High-Impact Director Role in a Growing Global Organization📍
Midwest (Milwaukee or Chicago area) | Hybrid
Our client, a publicly traded, global industrial manufacturer is seeking a Domestic Tax Director to play a key leadership role within an evolving and increasingly strategic tax function.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Federal, State and US International tax leader to step into a visible role supporting enterprise-wide initiatives, including tax planning, IRS audit management, M&A integration and oversight of tax compliance and tax accounting.
Why This Role Stands Out✅
Strategic Leadership + Function Build-Out
The tax team is on a journey to become more proactive, and value driven. This individual will have the opportunity to shape the domestic tax strategy versus it being a compliance shop.
✅
Significant Transaction + Integration Exposure
The company has been highly active with major acquisitions and portfolio changes, creating strong involvement in:
- Research, planning and M&A
- Transaction support and integration
- High-visibility cross-functional work streams
✅
Ownership of Tax Controversy and Audit Strategy
The Domestic Tax Director will lead IRS and state audit support and help drive controversy strategy — an increasingly rare and valuable area of expertise.
✅
Public Company Platform + SEC Reporting Complexity
This role offers strong exposure and oversight of:
- Quarterly tax provision and reporting
- SOX controls and governance
- Tax compliance
- Collaboration with external auditors and finance leadership
This opportunity is best suited for someone with:
- 10+ years in corporate tax (public + large industry blend ideal), but open to someone straight out of public accounting
- 5+ years of supervisory experience, including mentoring and coaching
- Strong Federal, State and US International planning, global income tax reporting and tax compliance expertise
- Experience with Federal multi-state complexity and audit defense
- Interest in M&A-driven environments and strategic transformation
- Manufacturing industry experience a plus, but not required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
- Working knowledge of reporting systems preferred (Hyperion, One Stream)
- Exposure to tax technology solutions is a plus (Corptax Compliance and Provision)
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
- Master’s in Tax is a plus
- CPA is preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills, ability to work independently, detail oriented and excellent analytical capabilities
- Proactive problem solver and innovative thinker. Ability to partner across global functional teams to resolve complex tax issues
- Proven ability to optimize talent and foster team growth and development
- Comfortable handling time-sensitive and highly confidential projects
