Job Overview

This position is responsible for providing administrative and managerial support to the Commanding Officer, supervising and evaluating the work of financial, budgeting, bookkeeping, computer systems, property management and human resources functions, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and assuming additional responsibilities in the absence of the Area Commander.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises, assigns, instructs, monitors and evaluates the work of staff responsible for financial, budgeting, bookkeeping, computer systems, property management and human resource functions; interviews potential employees and hires or fires employees; conducts exit interviews; prepares and submits required paperwork for hiring and terminating employees; conducts annual performance reviews and makes recommendations for pay increases or position changes.
  • Supervises, develops, coordinates and implements all areas of finance, accounting, budgeting, EDP and related business activities.
  • Assists all departments in budget control and preparation; reviews budget status periodically with department heads; monitors all expenditures and makes appropriate adjustments when necessary.
  • Supervises and evaluates the installation and maintenance of Area Command computer systems; works with designated Divisional Headquarters staff regarding procurement, installation, maintenance, personnel development, and usage and development plan of all computers.
  • Directs and supervises all personnel matters including the maintenance of personnel files; ensures that job descriptions are up-to-date; ensures that hiring/firing policies are adhered to; ensures that performance evaluations are conducted in a timely manner; consults the Area Commander and Department Heads regarding personnel matters and policies.
  • Reviews each department’s operation with respect to the program budget; assists in budget control and preparation and reviews budget status with Department Heads periodically.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field.
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible administrative experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications
  • Valid State Driver’s License
