POSITION SUMMARY

The Central Management Services (CMS) Division of Vehicles seeks a highly motivated, results‑focused professional to serve as Safety & Training Coordinator. Based at the CMS Central Garage in Springfield, the candidate will survey staff statewide to assess training needs, coordinate workshops and online courses, maintain a safe work environment, serve as liaison to Department of Labor representatives, and oversee vehicle & equipment parts inventory across all 13 state garages.

POSITION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinate training efforts and serve as the Division’s training coordinator.
  • Act as safety coordinator for the Division.
  • Organize, plan, execute, control, and evaluate the annual vehicle parts inventory for each State Garage site.
  • Maintain automotive parts contract information; monitor expiration dates to ensure continuous availability of goods.
  • Perform purchasing and/or support functions for the Division of Vehicles.
  • Perform any additional duties reasonably within the scope of the above duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Four (4) years of college education, preferably in business or public administration.
  • One (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency‑approved professional management training program.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive experience as a training coordinator.
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive safety and OSHA compliance.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in the automotive industry, including work with parts, components, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of procurement rules related to purchasing commodities and equipment for a large fleet of vehicles and off‑road equipment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and automated fleet or maintenance software systems.
  • One (1) year of experience in automotive inventories and garage operations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Completion of a background check and criminal history disclosure.
  • Work may include overtime (scheduled, unscheduled, or last‑minute) and possibilities of evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to travel and stay overnight as needed; a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Position is medium work (no more than 50 lbs per lift, frequent lifts up to 25 lbs).
  • Must use agency technology properly in accordance with security and confidentiality policies.
