Job DescriptionThe Sanitation Technician Jr. is responsible for safely operating and cleaning equipment, handling chemicals to sanitize production equipment, and cleaning the production area while following Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP). The role may require minor disassembly/assembly of equipment to facilitate cleaning. The technician ensures plant sanitary conditions adhere to established food safety and quality standards and takes appropriate action when deficiencies occur.
Duties & Responsibilities- Disassemble, clean, and sanitize production machinery, equipment, tables, bins, pans, utensils, and other items used in production using various equipment, including high‑pressure water hoses.
- Clean and sanitize all floors, walls, ceilings, structures, drains, vents, evaporators, light fixtures, etc., within production and support areas.
- Ensure proper care of equipment during cleaning, including covering control boxes and critical components to prevent water infiltration and safely transporting/storing equipment.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including chemical safety, lockout/tagout, SSOP, reporting unsafe conditions, and immediately reporting any near miss, injury, or accident to the Team Leader or Manager.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Sanitation Practices (GSP) as outlined by Ajinomoto Windsor.
- Handle equipment and chemicals in accordance with company, government, and safety data sheet guidelines.
- Assist with other sanitation work as needed.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in sanitation procedures in a food manufacturing plant is helpful.
- Good English communication skills (reading, writing, and verbal) to interface with co‑workers, Team Leaders, and Managers.
- Willingness to work as part of a team, be self‑motivated, and work with little or no supervision.
The job requires regular movement on foot, bending at the spine and legs, use of hands and fingers for handling tools, and the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. The role demands eye, hand, and foot coordination with foot and hand controls and involves working in temperatures ranging from freezing to sub‑freezing.
