Position: CNC Machinist (Lacon, IL) O'Brien Steel

Pay
: $23.00 – $27.00 per hour (based on experience and shift)

Position Overview

We are hiring CNC Machinists to support fabrication and production operations across the Lacon facility. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC equipment to produce machined parts that meet customer specifications and quality standards.

Employees in this role will perform machine setup, tooling changes, and process adjustments while working to maintain efficiency and quality. This position may work on a variety of CNC equipment including verticals, horizontals, bridges, and lathe CNC’s. This position may support multiple areas of the operation based on experience and business needs.

This is a skilled position and prior machining experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC machining equipment to produce parts to specification
  • Adjust machine controls, tooling, and offsets to ensure optimal performance and precision
  • Monitor machine operation and troubleshoot issues to maintain production flow
  • Prepare tooling for changeovers and perform machine changeovers as required
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance with quality standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to guide machining operations
  • Move materials or parts using forklifts, jib cranes, or other equipment as needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Work with supervisors and team members to meet production schedule and goals
Qualifications & Skills
  • 2+ years of CNC machining experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and setup procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Experience performing machine setup, tooling changes, and basic troubleshooting
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use a tape measure or other measuring devices
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or climb for extended periods (8+ hours per shift)
    Ability to wear required welding PPE, including fire-resistant gear, for extended periods
  • Work is performed indoors in a non-climate controlled manufacturing facility
Shift & Scheduling

Multiple shifts are available. Applicants will have the opportunity to indicate their preferred shift during the application process. 2nd and 3rd shift positions may include additional pay through a shift differential. Final shift assignment will be based on business needs and applicant experience.

Overtime opportunities may be available based on workload and production needs.
