Position: Certified Assembly Technician Class B, 2nd Shift (Onsite)

Job Overview

Collins Aerospace, a unit of RTX, is seeking an Onsite Production Technician to assist in assembling Ram Air Turbines (RAT) used for aircraft emergency power generation at our Rockford, IL location. U.S. citizenship is required. The role is primarily on a 2nd Shift schedule, with initial training on 1st or 2nd Shift for up to two months.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble, inspect, disassemble, reassemble, apply safety wiring, part marking, painting, and repair of sub‑assemblies and final assemblies.
  • Maintain quality stamp authority and complete required documents and records.
  • Follow written instructions, such as route cards, job instruction sheets (JIS), engineering drawings, work orders, and engineering prints for problem analysis.
  • Build general knowledge of assembly functions to troubleshoot units.
  • Operate and maintain departmental machinery, equipment, tooling, and gauging.
  • Learn machine brazing, soldering, and balancing under supervision.
  • Identify and recommend processing changes and method improvements.
  • Maintain calibration of instrumentation (torque wrenches, micrometers, gauges, etc.) and keep related records.
  • Cooperate with supervisors, engineering, suppliers, and support personnel to resolve issues.
  • Interface with customer or government personnel when required.
  • Use inspection equipment for visual and dimensional inspections of sub‑assemblies, assemblies, and process pieces to ensure conformity.
  • Assist in performing and monitoring test set‑ups and verify equipment calibrations.
  • Verify that job instruction sheets, blueprints, or specifications are at the correct revision.
  • Conduct environmental checks (temperature, humidity) and maintain a clean work area.
  • Incorporate engineering changes into the manufacturing process plan.
  • Apply basic shop mathematics to calculate fractions and decimals.
  • Monitor department process equipment for fluid, gas, temperature, and other operating parameters.
  • Maintain program and process certifications as needed.
  • Print process manufacturing documentation.
  • Understand hazardous materials and safe handling practices, and mix/applies chemical compounds such as adhesives, paints, and locktites.
  • Assist with administrative tasks (ordering shop supplies, tools, calibration recall, material shelf life).
  • Maintain proper records of material acceptance or rejection.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A&P license.
  • Experience with hand tools.
  • Experience with calibration and/or maintenance.
  • Previous experience in aerospace or aviation assembly (2–4 years).
  • Engineering or technical background is a plus.
Shift & Compensation

Shift: 2nd Shift, 3:00pm – 11:00pm, Monday–Friday.

Salary range: $35.25 – $40.15 per hour.
