Deputy Communications Director

The Deputy Communications Director serves as a policy-making official reporting to the Director of Communications at the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. This role leads internal and external communications efforts, manages communications strategies related to federal healthcare initiatives, and oversees the communications team's operations. The position requires strong writing, organizational skills, and leadership abilities to manage statewide marketing efforts, public website and social media content, special events, and sensitive communications with the Governor's Office.

• Four years of college with coursework in journalism, communications, marketing, or liberal arts
• Four years of related administrative experience in media relations, communications, public affairs, or comparable field
• Four years of professional experience managing a communications strategy for a public or business organization
• Four years of professional experience presenting or communicating on behalf of a public or business organization
• Ability to travel with overnight stays and work overtime including evenings and weekends
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or marketing preferred
