The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide skilled nursing care on a Medical/Surgical unit, working 3x12 night shifts. The RN will manage a patient load with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio, including every other weekend. The role requires floating to similar units as needed and adapting to a fast-paced environment.
Location:
Springfield, Illinois, United States
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical/Surgical unit.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the healthcare team.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Float to other Med Surg and similar units as needed.
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record (Cerner preferred).
- Assist with post-angiogram and post-MI care.
- Manage IV insulin protocols.
- Perform colostomy and feeding tube care.
- Manage pre/post hemodialysis patients.
- Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral lines.
- Administer heparin and insulin, including PCA.
- Provide care for CVA and pre/post neurosurgery patients.
- Manage chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and high flow nasal cannula.
- Perform wound care and manage wound vacs.
- Implement isolation precautions.
- Assist in emergency situations and rapid response events.
Required Skills &
Certifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg experience.
- BLS certification.
- NIH certification.
Preferred Skills &
Certifications:
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry experience.
- Experience with post-angiogram and post-MI care.
- Experience with IV insulin protocols.
- Experience with colostomy and feeding tube care.
- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management.
- Experience with blood product administration and central/PICC line management.
- Experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA administration.
- Experience with CVA and pre/post neurosurgery patients.
- Ortho trauma experience.
- Surgical drain experience.
- Experience with chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and high flow nasal cannula.
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and wound care.
- Previous charge experience.
- Cerner experience.
- Level I Trauma experience.
Special Considerations:
- Will work every other weekend.
- Must be able to float to other Med Surg and similar units.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without pay.
- No on-call requirement.
- Acute Care Hospital - Level I trauma center. Magnet hospital/facility.
- Scrub Color: Any solid color.
Scheduling:
- 3x12 night shifts ).
- Cannot contract to block scheduling but typically can schedule colleagues 3 in a row.
- Discuss schedule requests with manager.
