, as a Staff Nurse (RN) in the 9N&S MICU department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity
. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is a 24‑bed unit split into two sides—the north and the south—with 12 beds on each side. It is the second largest unit and has a free‑floating charge nurse.
MICU is the only inpatient unit with a Tier‑1 employee engagement score for three consecutive years. You will have the opportunity to work with physicians who constantly push the bounds of possibility forward, conduct groundbreaking research, and provide lifesaving, personalized patient care. A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient‑centered care that is outcome directed. Patient‑centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care provided.
The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under their supervision.
- Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
- Develops a plan of care for patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
- Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by a Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager.
- Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person, and working as a team member.
- Assists Care Center in development/attainment of goals and objectives.
- Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
- Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meet those needs.
- Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.
- Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
- Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100 % tuition reimbursement toward a BSN degree from an accredited program.
- Current Illinois RN license.
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- BSN degree or higher.
- 2+ years ICU experience.

The pay range is based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
