Registered Nurse (BHS) Job Description
Responsibilities- Provides assistance to physicians in the direct and indirect treatment of patients in Behavioral Health Services.
- Performs charting functions to ensure an accurate and complete patient record.
- Completes initial physical and psychological assessments and performs psychological tests as directed by physicians.
- Assesses patients' conditions and care delivery through direct observation, rounding, and data input from other team members.
- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or situation; recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data.
- Coordinates bed and patient care assignments during shifts and in preparation for the next shift to ensure consistency in care delivery.
- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients.
- Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues.
- Documents and reports care delivered to physicians and other team members as needed.
- Enhances professional growth through classes related to communication, teaching, stress management, conflict resolution, and team building annually (in addition to required unit/patient‑specific education).
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes; reports data and outcomes to appropriate physicians and/or other disciplines.
- Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards.
- Pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit‑based in‑service programs, reading current literature, and seeking new clinical learning opportunities.
- Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
- Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
- Provides leadership and supervision to the health‑care team during assigned shifts.
- Provides performance feedback to team members and input to Manager/Director regarding appraisals.
- Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health‑care team; identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions.
- Serves as a strong, positive role model for other health‑care team members.
- Employs teaching strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) – required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
$37.23 - $57.71 per hour, paid based on experience.
