American Traveler is seeking an experienced Oncology RN for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring an active IL RN license and chemotherapy certification.
Requirements- Active IL RN license required; must be active and in hand at time of consideration
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required
- Minimum 1 year of oncology RN experience required
- Proficiency in IV therapy and infusion skills required, including: accessing/managing ports, central line care, PICC line care, central line blood draws, administration of blood/blood products, coagulation factors, antifungals, and antivirals
- Hands-on chemotherapy skills required: administration (IV push, continuous infusion, oral), body fluid handling post-chemo, cytotoxic spill management, monitoring, and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- OCN and ONS/ONCC certifications preferred
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Inpatient oncology unit within a 562-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital
- Unit census averages 24 patients across 24 beds
- Patient ratio of 1:6–7
- Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7:15 AM – 6:45 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
- No on-call requirement
- Charting system:
Cerner (experience preferred) - Patient population includes those receiving active chemotherapy, biotherapy, and symptom management, including patients with leukemia, lymphomas, and blood dyscrasias
- 13-week assignment in Springfield, IL
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Travel pairs are not accepted at this facility
- Candidates who have worked as a permanent or PRN employee of this health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- RTO of up to 5 non-holiday days may be approved; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
- Candidate must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scrub color: any solid color
- Free parking is available with a permit obtained during orientation
- Day 1 orientation is virtual and completed from home; all assigned modules must be completed by 4:00 PM CST on Day 1
- Preferred biotherapy skills include: administration of interferons and interleukins, active immunotherapy, and recognition/management of side effects
- Preferred symptom management experience includes: nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, edema, altered mental status, dysphagia, constipation/diarrhea, and skin/mucous membrane alterations
- Preferred psychosocial care experience includes: hospice care, patient/family education, and end-of-life care
