Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring Level I trauma experience and a minimum of 2.5 years of OR nursing experience.

    - Level I trauma center acute care hospital operating room with 23 rooms
  • Works with all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
  • Day shift schedule of 4x10 hour shifts from 12:45 PM to 11:15 PM
  • Required to work one weekend per month
  • On-call requirement of approximately once per week
  • Occasional floating within skill set to meet facility needs
  • Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license in hand or in the application process
  • Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room nursing experience required
  • Level I trauma center experience required
  • General OR and Trauma case experience required
  • BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Experience with general surgery cases including appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures required
  • Experience with neurology cases including cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, and lumbar fusion required
  • Experience with orthopedic cases including arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, and fracture reductions required
  • Experience with urology cases including cystoscopy, nephrectomy, and prostatectomy required
  • Experience with trauma cases including amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, and multiple-injury MVAs required
  • Experience with free flap microvascular plastic surgery cases required
  • Experience with organ donation/transplant procedures required
  • Experience with bariatric laparoscopic-assisted cases required
  • Knowledge of emergency management protocols including code response, fire safety, latex allergy, and malignant hyperthermia required
  • Experience with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables required
  • Knowledge of blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, Universal Protocol time-out procedures, and urinary bladder catheterization required
  • Not accepted for first-time travelers
Additional Information
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Floating is required for all travelers, which may include floating within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Scrubs are provided for this role
  • Facility is a Magnet-designated, Level I trauma acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by facility management
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • First-day orientation is conducted virtually and at-home, with required modules completed by 4:00 PM CST
