Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Urology/Nephrology unit requiring an active IL RN license and a minimum of 2 years' medical/surgical experience.

Details
  • Work in the Medical Surgical unit of an acute care hospital, specializing in Urology/Nephrology
  • 25-bed unit with an average daily census of 23 and a 1:6 patient ratio
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required to other Medical Surgical units or nearby affiliate facilities
  • May be asked to work Charge as needed
  • Cerner charting system used
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required (in hand or in the application process)
  • Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years' medical/surgical nursing experience required
  • Previous Charge nurse experience required
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including remote telemetry monitoring and Rapid Response Teams
  • Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
  • Experience with IV therapy and phlebotomy, including blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral and PICC line management, and starting IVs
  • Experience administering Heparin
  • Experience with respiratory care including chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and portable oxygen tanks
  • Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
Additional Information
  • Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated acute care hospital with 562 staffed beds
  • Any solid color scrubs permitted
  • Free parking available with a permit obtained during orientation
  • First-time travelers welcome, provided they have a solid foundation with more than 2 years' medical/surgical nursing experience
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • RTO ideally limited to no more than 5 days
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • Preferred experience in teaching hospitals and Level I trauma settings
  • Preferred experience with kidney transplant and urology/nephrology cases
