Job Summary

Abbott is seeking an experienced attending veterinarian to oversee the management of all animal-related activities within its Lake County animal care and use program. This role provides clinical veterinary support, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports research, testing, and production programs.

Key Responsibilities

Veterinary Medical Care

• Oversee the veterinary care program, ensuring humane treatment and handling of animals.
• Diagnose, treat, and manage animal health conditions, including maintaining health records.
• Implement disease surveillance and preventative medicine programs.

Regulatory Compliance

• Monitor and implement changes in animal welfare regulations.
• Maintain compliance with USDA, AAALAC, and internal veterinary policies.
• Participate in USDA inspections and AAALAC site visits.
• Served as the attending veterinarian and voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

Research & Production Support

• Advise principal investigators, IACUC, and animal care staff on regulatory requirements.
• Assist with animal model development and special procedures.
• Provide training on animal care, research protocols, and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an AVMA-accredited institution; licensed in Illinois.
• At least three years of clinical experience.
• Knowledge of USDA Animal Welfare Regulations and regulatory policies.
