Position Overview
Postdoctoral researcher at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne National Laboratory.
Develop ultrafast microscale photonics and MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) devices for X‑ray optics at synchrotron radiation sources. The role includes MEMS design and simulation, testing and characterization of devices, and designing and executing time‑resolved X‑ray experiments with MEMS‑based X‑ray optics.
Term:
Two years, renewable for a third year contingent on project progress and funding.
Develop ultrafast MEMS‑based oscillators driven by storage‑ring RF signals to manipulate X‑ray pulses.
Engage in independent research while collaborating closely with senior group members.
Relevant Publications- PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field with zero to five years of post‑doctoral experience.
- Expertise in testing, characterizing, and measuring MEMS devices and designing feedback loops and control algorithms for precise operation.
- Understanding of material properties used in MEMS and compatibility with X‑ray optics applications.
- Knowledge of software tools to simulate physical properties and behavior of MEMS structures.
- Hands‑on experience with signal processing and RF testing instruments.
- Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Ability to synthesize research findings into articles, technical reports, and conference presentations.
- Strong self‑motivation and interest in research relevant to the field.
- Alignment with Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork.
- Experience in X‑ray scattering desirable but not required.
Comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package.
Pay range: $70,758.00–$ (subject to qualifications, level, and market).
