Assistant

Manager – Operations

The Assistant Manager, Operations is responsible for managing overall store operations, ensuring achievement of company goals, and supporting the General Manager in running the daily business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service
  • Provide positive representation of Westlake Ace Hardware.
  • Proactively assist customers in solving problems.
  • Greet customers when entering the store and throughout the day.
  • Thank customers upon completion of their visit.
  • Maintain a friendly, outgoing demeanor and work well with associates.
  • Answer all calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.
  • Handle customer complaints and work to resolve issues with the customer’s best interest considered.
  • Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and product locations.
Store Operations
  • Ensure a positive, professional and safe work environment for all associates.
  • Supervise the overall operations of the entire store.
  • Be responsible for opening and closing the store.
  • Assist with the implementation of Store Support Center programs.
  • Ensure successful Loss Prevention, Safety and internal audits.
  • Work with the General Manager and Assistant Manager – Merchandising on all aspects of running the store.
  • Participate in weekly management staff meetings.
  • Communicate issues to the appropriate Store Support Center department with General Manager approval.
  • Assist with special projects within the district as directed by the District Manager.
  • Implement new Standard Operating Procedures into store execution.
  • Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stockroom and outdoor merchandise areas.
  • Ensure weekly price changes and label updates are completed accurately and timely.
  • Oversee all cashiering functions, including training, maintenance, audits and reports.
  • Manage and direct preventative maintenance and repairs to protect physical assets.
  • Visit competitors to stay familiar with their practices.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Inventory & Merchandising
  • Assist in ensuring safe and efficient forklift operations and receiving.
  • Ensure receiving, checking in and stocking of merchandise follows best practices and SOPs.
  • Maintain back‑stock levels and complete cycle counts and negative on‑hand reports timely and accurately.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels.
  • Assist with merchandise resets throughout the store.
  • Ensure all signage is current.
  • Assist in presenting a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and promotional merchandising.
Hiring & Training of Associates
  • Assist in training all associates.
  • Recruit and promote the advancement of Westlake Ace associates.
  • Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, reviewing, rewarding and coaching Head Cashiers and Cashiers with GM approval.
Leadership
  • Manage all aspects of store operations in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Lead by example and be approachable to associates and customers.
  • Participate in store meetings.
  • Communicate merchandising, cost‑control or sales ideas to the General Manager for follow‑up.
  • Prepare and challenge yourself for future advancement.
Other Essential Requirements
  • Ability to exhibit and incorporate Ace’s Core Values in daily decisions and interactions.
Minimum Skills, Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous retail management experience preferred.
  • Hardware experience preferred.
  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 25 lbs) and climbing.
