Minimum Starting Salary: $28.37 per hour / 7.5 hour workday
Summary:
This position performs a variety of non-technical and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in support of Facilities & Services operations. This position assists in the maintenance, sustainment, improvement, and repair of campus buildings and infrastructure across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and HVAC work. Task are performed below the level of journeyman and may involve general maintenance duties.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks while utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Conduct routine upkeep duties including patching walls, fixture replacement, drain cleaning, light bulb replacement, furniture assembly, and minor repairs.
Assist skilled trades personnel with installations, replacements, minor repairs and project-related tasks. Provide support to journeyman-level workers in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC operations. Help with material handling and preparation for skilled trade work.
Support HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems under supervision. Assist with routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities. Monitor building systems and report irregularities or malfunctions. :
Follow all safety procedures, protocols, and applicable state and local codes. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and organized condition. Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, and equipment malfunctions promptly. Participate in safety training programs as required.
Document work performed, labor hours, and materials used in the maintenance management system. Complete required forms and reports accurately an timely. Maintain accurate inventory records for parts and materials.
Assist with F&S operations, including Grounds, Custodial, and Moving/Event Support Services as needed. Support special events and emergency response activities. Provide backup coverage for other operational areas during peak periods or staff absences.
Assist with maintenance of parts and materials inventory. Help with receiving, storing, and organizing supplies and equipment. Support procurement activities by identifying needed materials and supplies.
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Two (2) years (24 months) of mechanical and/or electrical work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Drivers License
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
High mechanical aptitude.
Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed
