Position: Medium Voltage Technician New Illinois

High Voltage/Medium Voltage (HV/MV) Technician

Job Type: Full-Time

Supplemental Pay: Performance bonus

Travel: 40%

ACT Power Services is a national Solar Power Operations & Maintenance Provider focused on delivering high quality services to our clients. We seek a skilled and safety-conscious High Voltage/Medium Voltage Technician to join our team. The role requires expertise in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of HV/MV electrical equipment and systems, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a solar power plant’s infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of HV/MV electrical systems (5kV – 35kV and above).
  • Conduct electrical testing of transformers, switch gear, breakers, relays, and protective devices.
  • Perform cable splicing and terminations according to industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and test results.
  • Assist in energizing new or repaired systems following strict safety protocols.
  • Comply with OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
  • Support system upgrades, outages, and emergency repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to meet project specifications and timelines.
Qualifications – Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience with HV/MV systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, protective relaying, and power system operations.
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g., Multimeters, Megger, Doble, HiPot, TTR).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field.
  • OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training.
  • NETA or equivalent testing certification.
  • Experience with substation and transmission system maintenance.
  • Certificate for medium voltage cable terminations and splices.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, heights, and around energized equipment.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE, including arc flash suits.
