PositionMobile Diesel Technician Level II – responsible for licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. May perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision. The role involves learning additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while meeting company policies and performance metrics.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, engine electronics, steering systems, transmissions, and other systems.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and apply sound judgment to determine solutions.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule with a high level of productivity.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and operate within standard repair times when possible.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss RO findings with management and support teams via email or phone.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years of related experience.
- Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Must meet Department of Transportation FMCSA requirements and successfully complete a DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment; or submit a valid DOT medical card with remaining validity and complete a DOT physical if necessary.
- Must be at least 21 years of age due to interstate operating authority.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T8 (PMI) additional endorsements; ASE 608/609 preferred.
