PositionWe are looking for an Apprentice Substation Electrician 1st (9 months) who will be responsible for performing substation maintenance and construction project activities. Tasks include replacement of Oil Circuit Reclosers, overhauling and maintaining Oil Circuit Breakers, Gas Circuit Breakers, Vacuum Circuit Breakers, troubleshooting AC and DC control circuits, troubleshooting voltage regulator problems, testing and maintaining AC battery chargers and DC battery systems, repairing or replacing failed substation apparatus, and constructing new substations.
The role also includes responding to emergent substation problems, performing basic transformer testing after fault events, accepting emergency callouts, and covering one-man truck responsibilities during vacation periods.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology preferred
- Completion of the Construction & Skilled Trades (CAST) Test
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with combination vehicle endorsement
- Requirement to pass all apprenticeship schooling and testing for those hired in the apprentice position
- Comply with residency requirements
- Position covered by the IBEW bargaining agreement
Hourly Pay:
Grade Step BW 081 Step 1 of 1 (Top Step) - $46.74 USD. The position is eligible for annual incentive payments based on company performance, subject to management discretion. Additional benefits are available to regular full‑time employees.
