MGT Impact Solutions is seeking a qualified candidate to be a Digital Navigator with Lake County, IL. Successful candidate will be MGT employees contracted to the County. The Digital Navigator role is a full-time (40 hours per week) position contracted through the end of December 2026 with Lake County Administration.
Primary DutiesThe Digital Navigator’s work is part of Lake County’s efforts to provide digital skills training and increase confidence in using technology in daily life for residents. This includes individuals who face barriers to accessing technology, such as low- or moderate-income households, communities affected by unemployment, households experiencing food or housing insecurity, and those qualifying for programs like the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Childcare Subsidies through the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF), or Medicaid.
Additionally, the Digital Navigator’s work supports incarcerated individuals, returning citizens, and their families who fall under these categories.
- Provide personalized technology assistance to Lake County residents, including troubleshooting technical issues, navigating digital platforms, and accessing online resources.
- Increase digital literacy and confidence among Lake County residents, particularly those who face barriers to accessing technology.
- Facilitate access to essential services and resources available online, such as healthcare information, educational opportunities, and government services.
- Foster community engagement and collaboration through outreach efforts and partnerships with local organizations.
- Provide assistance at the Digital Navigator’s assigned physical work site, and may include telephone, email, text, video chat, and other communications methods that cater to the needs of the learner.
- Receive, return or initiate contact with residents and families in Lake County households seeking assistance or identified by Lake County Departments and Offices.
- Assess residents’ access to technology, current digital skill level related to their needs, connectivity requirements, and internet use priorities, then set agreed-upon goals for Digital Navigator services and confirm the details with the resident.
- Advise residents about free or affordable home internet service options for which they may qualify, assist them in applying for chosen services, and support their efforts to secure service.
- Advise residents about sources of affordable computers or other internet-connected devices for which they may qualify, and support their efforts to acquire appropriate devices and find help for repairs.
- Track each resident’s progress and types of requests, maintain accurate and timely records, and report outcomes as required.
- Plan and manage digital skills educational programs and materials (e.g., create a lesson plan on how to attach files to an email, provide details on different types of files and what they are used for in personal and professional settings, present a PowerPoint in a recorded video to be watched later and/or provide an in-person lesson on the topic).
- Provide one‑on‑one and group workshops, as well as training on digital skills materials, both in‑person and virtually.
- Review and assist residents with technology‑based services such as telehealth, medical records, and other government services.
- Liaison with community organizations that provide relevant services to residents and their families.
- Collect, organize, and disseminate relevant community organization program materials to residents and families in the form of virtual flyers, presentations, and/or brief video presentations.
- Attend Digital Navigator professional development opportunities organized by the County; participate in Lake County Digital Equity Coalition meetings and activities; support community device distribution events organized by the County; attend local government and Chamber of Commerce meetings as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One year experience in navigation and/or mentoring of adults.
- Ability to work evenings or weekends, depending on program recipients’ schedules.
- Education or experience in psychology, teaching, tutoring, or social work is strongly desired.
- Bilingual candidates are strongly desired.
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel to multiple locations across Lake County, including the Lake County Administrative Complex at 18 N County St, Waukegan, IL 60085; other County departments, and identified community organizations.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
Annual salary $50,000. MGT employee benefits include up to a 5% match for a 401(k) retirement plan, a comprehensive medical/health benefits package, and 10 days paid leave per year.
