PurposeThe Associate Carrier Sales Representative supports the day-to-day carrier procurement and coverage function across Custom Logistics by sourcing truckload capacity, building carrier relationships, negotiating rates, and supporting the successful movement of freight from booking through delivery.
This role exists to develop entry-level carrier sales talent while supporting load coverage, carrier communication, market awareness, and service execution across the truckload brokerage network.
The Associate Carrier Sales Representative is an entry-level carrier sales role designed to build foundational skills in freight coverage, carrier negotiation, relationship development, system discipline, and operational follow-through.
Success in this role is defined by activity discipline, communication quality, learning speed, carrier engagement, and the ability to consistently support freight coverage needs.
Core Responsibilities Carrier Sourcing & Capacity Development- Source qualified truckload carriers to support active and upcoming freight opportunities.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with reliable carrier partners.
- Use load boards, internal carrier history, market knowledge, and direct outreach to identify available capacity.
- Develop familiarity with core lanes, carrier preferences, equipment types, and market conditions.
- Support the growth of the carrier network by identifying repeat‑use and relationship‑based carrier opportunities.
Goal: Build a strong foundation in truckload capacity sourcing and carrier relationship development.
Load Coverage & Rate Negotiation- Support the coverage of truckload shipments by contacting carriers, presenting load details, and confirming carrier interest.
- Negotiate transportation rates within guidance provided by leadership or senior carrier sales representatives.
- Issue rate confirmations and ensure carriers clearly understand shipment expectations.
- Confirm equipment type, pickup readiness, delivery requirements, transit expectations, and accessorial terms.
- Communicate coverage updates clearly to internal teams.
Goal: Support timely freight coverage while learning how to balance cost, service, and carrier quality.
- Communicate professionally with carriers, dispatchers, and drivers throughout the shipment lifecycle.
- Provide clear load details, appointment expectations, tracking requirements, and customer‑specific instructions.
- Maintain consistent follow‑up with carriers to support pickup, transit, and delivery execution.
- Develop trust‑based relationships with carrier partners through responsiveness, transparency, and follow‑through.
- Escalate carrier communication gaps, service concerns, or negotiation issues when support is needed.
Goal: Establish credibility with carriers while reinforcing Custom Logistics’ service expectations.
Shipment Support & Execution Follow‑Through- Support shipment execution by helping confirm pickup, delivery, driver assignment, and carrier readiness.
- Partner with Truckload Operations Specialists to ensure visibility, tracking compliance, and timely updates.
- Assist with resolving basic carrier‑side issues related to appointments, delays, paperwork, and communication gaps.
- Maintain awareness of active loads and understand when a shipment requires escalation.
- Help ensure each covered load has clear carrier commitment and documented expectations.
