Position: STOREKEEPER I

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Storekeeper I. The successful candidate will, under general supervision of the Automotive Shop Supervisor, issue and receive parts, shop tools, supplies and maintain inventory of parts, shop repair equipment, and other commodity items for the Day Labor Unit F Shop facility.

Essential Functions
  • Issues supplies, repair parts and maintains proper storage and inventory of repair parts, commodities and materials for the Day Labor Unit F Shop facility.
  • Prepares receiving reports, reviews invoices and price labels for all incoming parts and supplies.
  • Utilizes manual/automated systems to record and control Unit F Shop repair parts, commodities and shop tool inventory.
  • Ensures parts delivery accuracy, tracks daily fuel pump usage readings, performs basic cleaning and housekeeping in parts storage areas and other shop work areas.
  • Assists mechanics with needed repair parts, shop tools and safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires the knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires minimum of one year experience in the management of stores items and stores inventory control records or in the auto repair parts or agriculture equipment repair parts distribution industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers working knowledge of automotive, heavy truck and off-road equipment repair parts, terminology and exhibits excellent communication skills and willingness to work as a team.
  • Prefers working knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office applications such as Word.
