Position Overview

The Director of Revenue Accounting is a senior technical leader who owns end‑to‑end revenue recognition for Avid globally. This individual serves as the company’s primary subject matter expert on ASC
606 and GAAP revenue accounting, partnering closely with Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, and FP&A to evaluate complex arrangements and ensuring that Avid’s revenue reporting meets the highest standards of accuracy, compliance, and transparency. The role demands a rare combination of deep technical accounting expertise, operational discipline in managing the close process, executive communication skills, and the ability to develop and inspire a high‑performing team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Revenue Recognition Leadership

Serve as Avid’s primary technical authority on ASC
606 and maintain fluency in legacy ASC
    605. Author and maintain technical accounting position papers, white papers, and contract review memos documenting the company’s application of GAAP to complex arrangements. Evaluate new and non‑standard customer contracts and monitor guidance such as FASB ASU updates, SEC staff guidance, and emerging practice to proactively assess impact on Avid’s revenue model. Lead technical accounting discussions with external auditors, ensuring positions are defensible, documented, and consistently applied.

  • Revenue Close & Reporting

Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close process end‑to‑end, ensuring timely, accurate completion within close deadlines. Oversee the integrity of transaction data and configurations within Rev Pro, prepare and review revenue‑related disclosures for SEC filings, and develop month‑end analytical review procedures to surface anomalies for investigation.

  • Deal Desk & Commercial Partnership

Act as a standing resource for Deal Desk and Sales during contract negotiation, providing real‑time guidance on how proposed terms affect revenue recognition. Educate Sales, Customer Success, and Legal teams on ASC
606 principles in clear, non‑technical language and maintain a repository of pre‑approved contract language and term structures.

  • Internal Controls & SOX Compliance

Design, document, and maintain key revenue‑related internal controls under SOX, coordinate with internal audit and external auditors on revenue controls testing, and ensure the revenue accounting team’s processes are audit‑ready at all times.

  • Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Revenue Managers and Revenue Accountants, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of precision and accountability. Partner with Finance leadership on hiring, succession planning, and organizational design for the revenue function.

  • Systems, Process, & Special Projects

Lead Rev Pro enhancements, system upgrades, and integrations with ERP and CPQ tools. Contribute to M&A due diligence and acquisition integration, including carve‑out accounting and purchase price allocation for deferred revenue, and drive continuous improvement across the revenue cycle.

  • Qualifications & Skills
    • Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA license required.
    • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and industry roles at publicly traded companies.
    • Deep, hands‑on expertise in ASC
606 including multi‑element and multi‑performance obligation arrangements, SSP estimation, variable consideration, licensing, and SaaS/subscription models.
    • Experience authoring technical accounting memos and presenting positions to external auditors.
    • Experience managing a revenue accounting close process and SEC disclosure preparation.
    • SOX controls experience—design, documentation, and testing.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to distill complex GAAP issues for non‑accountant audiences.
    • Strong people leadership skills and a track record of developing high‑performing teams.
    • Preferred:

Experience with Rev Pro, Zuora Revenue, or comparable revenue management systems; background in software, SaaS, or media technology; M&A and integration experience; familiarity with IFRS
15; experience presenting to Audit Committees or CFOs.

Avid is an equal opportunity employer.

    Pay Range
    US: $156,660 – $234,990 USD
    Canada: $146,600 – $219,900 CAD
