Our client is one of the most well-respected General Contractors in MA, with a long-standing reputation for delivering complex commercial and institutional projects across the region - from healthcare and higher education facilities to large-scale commercial developments. Known for their collaborative culture, technical excellence, and low staff turnover, they're now looking to bring an experienced Estimator into a business that genuinely invests in its people.
As Estimator, you'll take ownership of the preconstruction and bidding process on some of the region's most notable commercial and institutional projects, working closely with project executives, subcontractors, and design teams from early conceptual budgeting through to final bid submission.
Responsibilities include:- Preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial and institutional projects ranging from conceptual budgets through hard-bid and negotiated GMP proposals
- Performing detailed quantity takeoffs and analyzing plans, specifications, and scope documents
- Soliciting, leveling, and evaluating subcontractor and vendor bids
- Identifying value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives
- Building strong relationships with subcontractors, architects, owners, and internal project teams
- Contributing to go/no-go decisions and overall preconstruction strategy
- Supporting a smooth handoff from estimating to the operations/project management team post-award
- 5+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor, ideally on commercial and/or institutional projects (healthcare, education, life sciences, or similar)
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience)
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Plan Swift, Sage, or similar) and Bluebeam
- Strong grasp of construction methods, materials, and market pricing across the Northeast
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build lasting subcontractor relationships
- A collaborative, detail-driven mindset and genuine investment in project success from bid to build
- Base salary up to $200,000, commensurate with experience
