Position: Hiring: Market Manager – Petersham Friday Market

Reporting Status:
Reports directly to the Board of Directors Compensation and

Hours:

Approximately 5 hours per week for the 20-week season, June 5-October 16. Limited additional hours managing the current vendors and recruiting new ones in preparation for the season will be added under a separate agreement. Salary based on experience and desired hours worked per week to be negotiated upon hire.

Description:

The Market Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Petersham Friday Market in conjunction with the Music Coordinator, who will plan the season’s music, book the musicians and negotiate payments. The Market Manager will work directly with vendors, local government, sponsors, communication channels, non-profits and entertainers to provide the best farmer’s market experience for attendees in keeping with organization’s Rules and Code of Conduct Market and Special Event Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Plan all Market details for the 20-week season including sponsor partnership, Town venue relationships, event logistics and supplies
  • Onsite management of the Markets during the 20-week season
  • Manage all vendors’ applications, communications, scheduling and reporting, including calling the Market for weather with the input of the Board
  • Develop evaluations to assess the strengths of the Market and identify areas of improvement
  • Ensure that sponsorship deliverables are met
  • Promote the Market by preparing editorial content and other promotional materials for social media and other communication platforms
  • Design and produce events that will encourage visitors throughout the region to attend the Market
  • Help develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Desired Skills and Characteristics:
    • A genuine love for farmers markets and the products and experiences that they offer
    • Strong written, oral, organizational and communication skills
    • Experience with event execution and familiarity with basic equipment and logistics
    • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Power Point
    • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
    • Self-directed but able to work collectively as a team player
    • Willingness to work in the elements (heat, rain, etc.)
    • Able to assertively and respectfully enforce rules as needed
    • Knowledge of mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations
