Full-Time, On-site Springfield, MA
Responsibilities- Assist dentist during examination and treatment of patients.
- Prepare patients for dental procedures, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist dentists during dental procedures.
- Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
- Pour and trim study casts.
- Clean and polish removable appliances.
- Assist the dentist in the management of medical and dental emergencies.
- Prepare dental supply orders as necessary, anticipating the needs of the clinic.
- Maintain knowledge of dental office clinical equipment and its maintenance/cleaning schedules (e.g., autoclave, period‑pro, low‑ and high‑speed handpieces).
- Keep equipment service records on clinical dental equipment.
- Provide post‑operative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
- Record treatment information in patient records as directed by the dentist.
- Assist at the front desk: scanning, confirming appointments, scheduling, preparing bills, receiving payments for dental services, completing insurance forms, and maintaining clerical records, manually or using a computer.
- Actively participate in staff meetings.
- Work as part of a team, performing tasks assigned by the Dental Practice Manager to ensure efficient clinic operation.
- In addition to the above, the Certified Dental Assistant may perform:
- Oral prophylaxis
- Instruct patient in oral hygiene
- Application of sealants
- Application of fluoride
- Expose dental diagnostic x‑rays
- Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts
- Application of matrix bands
- Etching and bonding of tooth surfaces
- Fabrication of temporary restorations
- Use a computer, work at a computer workstation, view a CRT, and have some knowledge of a keyboard.
- From time to time, work long and arduous hours.
