This role supports VDC execution through hands‑on modeling, coordination, clash resolution, drawing preparation, field deliverables, and collaboration with project management, fabrication, and field teams. The Lead VDC Coordinator also provides technical guidance to VDC Coordinators and Detailers while helping ensure project deliverables meet company standards, schedule requirements, and field installation needs.

Key Responsibilities VDC Project Coordination
  • Lead VDC coordination activities for assigned mechanical projects, ensuring models and drawings support project goals, coordination milestones, fabrication needs, and field installation.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining project-specific VDC execution plans, including modeling scope, coordination schedules, deliverable expectations, and project standards.
  • Coordinate closely with the VDC Manager, Senior Lead VDC Coordinator, Project Managers, Superintendents, and fabrication teams to prioritize work and resolve project needs.
  • Create, review, and coordinate detailed HVAC, piping, plumbing, and related mechanical models for assigned projects.
  • Develop coordination, shop, fabrication, hanger, sleeve, insert, equipment layout, final connection, and other project drawings as required.
  • Use clash detection and coordination tools to identify, communicate, and resolve conflicts with other trades and building systems.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and trade drawings to support accurate routing, equipment placement, constructability, and coordination.
  • Identify ambiguities, omissions, design gaps, conflicts, and constructability concerns; assist project teams with RFIs and design clarification as needed.
Fabrication & Field Integration
  • Prepare and support fabrication‑ready models, drawings, spool sheets, bills of material, and related deliverables for piping, plumbing, HVAC, and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate with fabrication and field teams to confirm model accuracy, installation sequencing, prefabrication opportunities, and project‑specific requirements.
  • Support field teams with model‑based layout, Trimble or similar layout coordination, installation planning, and issue resolution.
Drawing Submittals, Deliverables & Project Documentation
  • Prepare, review, and maintain coordination documents, drawing files, model updates, field deliverables, and project documentation.
  • Review equipment submittals for size, quantity, arrangement, and impact on layout and coordination.
  • Maintain accurate drawing revisions, coordination updates, RFI support documentation, and project communication records.
  • Support project setup, file organization, database updates, and Stratus or similar field deliverable workflows for assigned projects.
  • Attend and participate in project kickoff, VDC kickoff, coordination, progress, and field planning meetings.
  • Communicate modeling progress, coordination issues, schedule impacts, and project risks clearly to the VDC Manager and project leadership.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal project teams, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and field personnel.
  • Make practical value engineering suggestions to improve coordination, reduce material or labor impacts, and support efficient installation.
Technical Guidance & Quality Control
  • Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance to VDC Coordinators, Detailers, and Detailers‑in‑Training on assigned project tasks.
  • Review assigned VDC deliverables for accuracy, quality, completeness, constructability, and adherence to company standards.
  • Support training in Revit workflows, drawing standards, file management, Procore‑based communication, field deliverables, and department procedures.
  • Escalate workload, quality, coordination, or schedule concerns to the VDC Manager or Senior Lead VDC Coordinator in a timely manner.
