Experienced GPs are increasingly choosing AVHS because it offers a different kind of GP role—one that values clinical judgement, time, and quality over volume.
Medical Officers are choosing AVHS because it offers the opportunity to practise true continuity‑of‑care general practice with a defined patient cohort—without the pressure of volume‑driven, transactional medicine. At AVHS, you become the support for veterans who often do not have an established GP or require specialised, consistent care following military service. The model supports longitudinal relationships, comprehensive care planning, and advocacy for patients navigating complex and chronic physical and mental health needs.
This role suits experienced GPs seeking relationship‑based practice, clinical autonomy, and sustainable work without sacrificing professional standards. This is general practice done with time, purpose, and clinical depth.
About usAustralian Veteran Health Services is a veteran‑led medical practice supporting current and former Australian Defence Force members as they transition to civilian life.
Many veterans experience barriers accessing consistent primary care, particularly care that understands the unique and complex health impacts associated with military service. AVHS exists to address this gap by providing ongoing general practice care, alongside support with DVA‑related health needs, transition medicals, and complex care coordination.
Our clinicians practise medicine that is trauma‑informed, culturally aware, and relationship‑focused, recognising the cumulative impact of military service on health and wellbeing.
