JOB GOAL:
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.

Responsibilities:

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward achievement of established district curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to students for lessons, units and projects.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of student groups.
  • Strives by instruction and action to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives and performance expectations.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis; provides progress reports as required, and communicates with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Diagnoses the learning challenges of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance from district specialists as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follows the SPS code of conduct for the classroom, consistent with established policies, and develops rules of behavior enforced fairly.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals, and makes written evaluations as required.
  • Maintains an ongoing professional growth program meeting district and personal expectations.
  • Takes an active part in the contractually-approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning results.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and decision making; meetings held during the extended day.
  • Attends traditional school-sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House, programs, activities) per building administrator and contract.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of recent full-time employment experience directly related to trade shop and state trade/union license.
  • Passing score of at least 70% on the written and performance tests for licensure.
  • Passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy (VTLST) and the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (Medical Assisting 9-12), to be completed as soon as possible from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Salary: $54,541 to $88,258 – BU Salary Schedule
