The Salvation Army’s Springfield Corps is hiring a Bridging the Gap Counselor. This is a part-time position offering a generous benefit package.

Location 170 Pearl Street, Springfield, MA
Hours/week 15 hours per week;
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (1pm to 6pm)
Exemption Non‑exempt
Pay Range $18.00 - $25.00 per hour (starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications)
To assist the BTG Coordinator with the Bridging the Gap program.
Duties & Responsibilities- Help plan and assist Bridging the Gap Curriculum
- Review lesson plans and offer input
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Attend at least one group per week as an observer
- Discuss each participant’s progress with BTG Coordinator and interns
- Maintain a document of all participant’s addresses
- Advocate for participants where necessary
- Talk to participants as required/needed
- Handle and teach teens at Bridging the Gap with varying personal backgrounds
- Attend training sessions as required
- Coordinate with area colleges and graduate programs to recruit interns and volunteers
- Represent The Salvation Army’s social mission in the Bridging the Gap program
- Refer persons with spiritual needs to The Salvation Army Corps Officer
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor
A college student, preferably a college graduate
Work ExperienceMust have at least 1 year experience working with young adults
Other QualificationsAbility to work with disadvantaged youth is a definite plus
Must be knowledgeable about outside referral services
Must be at least 21 years of age
