Job Description

Adjunct Instructor positions are part‑time, semester‑to‑semester, non‑benefited MCCC/MTA/DCE unit positions.

The Engineering and Computer Science Department seeks adjunct teaching positions in computer science. The Computer Science Transfer program is a two‑year program that provides a solid foundation in computer science with the intent to transfer to a four‑year institution.

Proficiency in core principles and practices of computer science, including mathematics and computer programming, is critical.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a standard range of courses expected in the first two years of a degree program in computer science.
  • Conduct classes, prepare for instruction, assess student performance, provide student assistance by appointment, collaborate with faculty and adjuncts to provide consistent learning objectives, engage in professional development and required training. May be required to teach courses across different modalities such as online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner to students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate the needs and learning styles of diverse student populations, including non‑traditional and adult learners.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, manage classroom dynamics, and foster student engagement through interactive teaching methods, group activities, and hands‑on learning experiences.
  • Provide academic and career guidance, mentorship, and support to students pursuing careers in engineering.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree within the field or Master's plus 18 credits of graduate‑level work specific to the field.
  • College teaching experience, high school teaching experience, or adult education experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability and availability to teach introductory computer science courses in‑person, online, and hybrid for the fall semester 2025.
  • Successful community college teaching experience.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusiveness, equity and diversity within the academic setting.
  • Teaching experience with Early College students or at the High School level.
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college.
  • Experience building and facilitating asynchronous or hybrid courses using a standard learning management system.

Mandatory Training

All STCC employees are required to complete Information Awareness Security Training within thirty days of orientation and annually thereafter.
