Newton Youth Works Summer Internship Program Submit your application by Sunday, March 16th at 11:59pm to be considered.
The City of Newton’s Youth & Young Adult Services Division facilitates a Summer Internship Program for Newton youth aged 16-18. The program is also open to individuals over 18-years-old who are current high school students or who plan graduate high school immediately before the summer program begins.
The Internship Program provides a hands‑on learning experience that pairs real world job experiences, with career competency and post‑secondary skill building workshops.
Each summer the Newton Youth Works Summer Internship Program includes a June participant orientation as well as 6-8 weeks of part‑time paid employment. Participants will receive about 20 hours of on‑the‑job experience per week in addition to 1-3 hours of career competency training each week.
This summer we are planning to run the program for 8 weeks – from the week of June 30th through the week of August 18th. The exact end date for each participant/employment opportunity is somewhat flexible to accommodate people going off to college, other seasonal transitions, etc.
Some young people experience greater barriers to employment and workforce development opportunities. Newton’s Youth Works Internship Program aims to support those individuals.
Eligible candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions of the internship program listed below.
- Independently fill out the program application.
- Participate in one or more in‑person or virtual interviews without assistance.
- Independently communicate via email, phone and in‑person.
- Actively participate in weekly career development workshops.
- Willingly work with peers in a group setting.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
Message to parents/guardians:
We understand that you may need to offer support to your young person during this process. However, only applicants who can complete the above tasks independently will be considered for placement.
Please note, space is limited and not all applicants will be accepted into the program.
- Please note:
Due to the volume of applicants and the amount of time that goes into placing interns with employers, we will not be able to accept applications received after the deadline. - Applications will be reviewed beginning on Monday, March 17th. Interns are not selected on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
