Wilbraham & Monson Academy seeks a thoughtful, dynamic, and student-centered Upper School Math Teacher to join a collaborative department committed to strong fundamentals, clear reasoning, and joyful problem-solving. This is an opportunity to teach math at a formative stage, shaping their understanding, confidence, and willingness to take intellectual risks. The teaching load will likely include Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II, with support structures that help students grow in confidence and precision.

Successful candidates will bring strong content knowledge, a warm and steady classroom presence, and a commitment to helping students grow as independent thinkers and self advocates.

WMA is one of the nation’s oldest boarding schools (founded 1804) and offers a close-knit community where adults know students well, coach, advise, and help shape the day-to-day life of a vibrant campus.

Academic Responsibilities

Wilbraham & Monson Academy seeks a Full Time Upper School Math instructor for the  Academic Year and be responsible for:

  • Teaching four sections of Upper School Math
  • Designing lessons that are clear, engaging, and appropriately differentiated.
  • Providing timely and actionable feedback to students
  • Using assessments to refine instruction.
  • Planning and posting all lessons and assignments to the school’s Learning Management System, Canvas.
  • Providing student support during designated office hours each day
  • Serving as an advisor to 4-6 students, partnering with families and colleagues to support academic and personal growth.
  • Participating fully in department collaboration, including planning, communication, and shared support.
Afternoon/athletic program responsibilities

All faculty at Wilbraham & Monson Academy are also expected to participate in our afternoon program for two out of three seasons. This traditionally involves athletic coaching and/or activity supervision.

Candidates should be excited by the broader faculty role in a community where adults are visible, engaged, and invested in the lives of their students beyond just the classroom.

Residential responsibilities

If living on campus in school provided housing, faculty are asked to provide one night a week and one weekend a month of dorm supervision.

If living off campus, faculty are asked to provide four weekends a year of activity duty or supervision.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is an educator who combines strong content knowledge with warm, steady presence and high expectations:

Required qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematical Education, equivalent coursework, or closely related field work.
Preferred qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Experience in working with kids with various abilities, backgrounds, and needs
  • A demonstrated commitment to diverse populations and student well being
  • A track record of collaboration with colleagues and having a collaborative mindset.
  • Boarding school experience is a plus but not required.

Working conditions/physical demands

Physical demands include dexterity for office machines including but not limited to computers, telephones, electronic calculators, copy machines, and printers. Common physical demands include stooping, bending, reaching, walking and sitting or standing for extended periods.
