Responsibilities

  • Articulate the vision and mission of the school and the district.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise instructional programs using relevant data.
  • Encourage appropriate uses of instructional technologies.
  • Involve staff in preparing and implementing professional development plans that are related to high student achievement.
  • Understand the principles of mentoring and peer coaching.
  • Promote activities that honor academic excellence.
  • Implement the school’s and district’s goals.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Use effective methods of personnel selection, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Identify, implement, and evaluate content-based instruction based on the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Practice relevant fiscal management policies and procedures.
  • Use technology appropriately for record‑keeping, scheduling, communication, data collection, accountability, and educational research.
  • Assist in the improvement of instructional programs.
  • Provide support and leadership in implementing standards‑based classrooms and the use of the Principles of Learning.
  • Understand plant facilities and equipment management.
  • Assure presence and quality of educational practices and programs that address the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
  • Model and encourage the belief that effort is a key factor in achievement.
  • Help all students see themselves as unique individuals responsible for their own actions.
  • Follow and help train teachers to use the district’s Code of Conduct.
  • Understand and support the use of intervention services for students.
  • Assure high academic expectations for all students.
  • Hold teachers, students, and self to high standards of performance and behavior.
  • Involve families and other community members in developing the vision, goals, School Improvement Plans, and programs.
  • Promote partnerships among staff, families, the business community, and other community groups and use community resources to enhance instruction.
  • Be familiar with the district’s student support services.
  • Be familiar with the range of instructional programs, practices, policies, and beliefs that promote the goals of the Culture of Equity and Proficiency.
  • Know multiple strategies to assess student performance.
  • Understand organizational change, school‑based management, and school restructuring.
  • Understand federal, state, and local laws and regulations including laws on disability, civil rights and responsibilities, issues of liability, and requirements of due process.
  • Participate in parent conferences, PTO work, and community relations.
  • Take an active part in professional organizations.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education as a School Principal/Assistant Principal.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Leadership experience as chairman of teacher’s committees, school counselor, officer of professional or community organizations, school administration, SEA career ladder positions, or similar.
  • Experience in positions of responsibility in professional and community groups.
