Position Overview
Springfield College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Biology/Chemistry to teach ENVS 120 “Foundations of Sustainability” (3 credit hours) in Fall 2026. This introductory-level course examines sustainability as an interdisciplinary field that examines the interrelated environmental, economic, social and technological problems facing humans at local, regional and global scales. The course takes a scientific approach to understanding sustainability: providing a foundation of the concepts, principles and tools from diverse fields that contribute to understanding and responding to problems such as climate change, environmental degradation, and social inequalities.
Introducing perspectives from the natural and social sciences, arts and humanities, and professional disciplines, it explores how their interconnection increases the prospects for creating a more sustainable future. ENVS 120 is scheduled to be offered in Fall 2026, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:50 AM – 12:05 PM. The class enrollment will be approximately 25‑30 students.
Compensation for adjunct faculty with fewer than 3 years college teaching experience is $940 per credit hour. Compensation for adjunct faculty with 3 or more years college teaching experience is $1,171 per credit hour.
QualificationsCandidates must possess a Masters degree or above in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability Studies, or related fields; ABD candidates welcomed. Applicants with teaching experience are highly desired. Must reside in one of the following states: MA, CT, WI, DE, TX, VT, FL.
