Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate will have a proven record of success implementing English and Math intervention strategies.
Job GoalTo help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible, and productive citizens.
Responsibilities- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of established district curriculum goals, and communicate clear objectives to students for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon the supervisor’s request as required by the teachers’ contract.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students or student groups.
- Work to implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly; provide progress reports and communicate with parents as necessary.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Diagnose learning challenges of students regularly and seek assistance from district specialists as required.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follow the SPS code of conduct for the classroom and develop rules of behavior enforced fairly.
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and provide written evaluations as required.
- Maintain an ongoing professional growth program that satisfies district requirements and personal expectations.
- Participate actively in the contractually‑approved teacher evaluation process and contribute to a mutual agreement about the results.
- Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and decision‑making among staff.
- Participate in traditional school-sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House) as agreed with the building administrator and faculty.
- Contribute to decisions regarding district and building budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well‑being.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
- Appropriate English content and grade‑level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s degree with appropriate license, or
- Master’s degree with appropriate content‑area license preferred; expected to be completed within five years.
