Responsibilities
- Reports to the Executive Officer of Special Education & Related Services
- Supervise the special education process to ensure compliance.
- Knowledge and experience working with out of district special education programs.
- Act as a liaison between the Springfield Public Schools and other private and public schools in the transition and support of children with disabilities.
- Keep informed of all legal requirements governing special education and the status of services available to students with special needs.
- Assist in providing leadership and mentoring in the establishment of new programs and initiatives for children with disabilities through professional development to staff and families.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Executive Officer of Special Education & Related Services
- Supervise, mentors and evaluates district Evaluation Team Leaders.
- Collaborates with school administrators, special education teams, and families to develop and review IEPS for exceptional learners.
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Licensed as a Special Education Administrator by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.
- Three to five years of successful teaching experience in the areas of special education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA 2004 and 603.CMR 28.00.
- Demonstrated knowledge in best practices in meeting the needs of all children with disabilities.
