High School Earth Science Teacher

Responsibilities

• Meet and instruct assigned classes at the locations and times designated.
• Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
• Guide the learning process toward achievement of district curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
• Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon supervisor request, as required by the teachers’ contract.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with location constraints and student group capabilities.
• Implement the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, objectives, and performance expectations through instruction and action.
• Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents when necessary.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• Diagnose learning challenges of students regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as required.
• Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Follow the SPS classroom code of conduct, develop and enforce fair classroom behavior rules.
• Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals and make written evaluations as required.
• Maintain a professional growth program that satisfies district requirements and personal professional expectations.
• Participate actively in the contractually approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement on evaluation results.
• Attend building and district meetings to promote communication and decision making among staff; meetings are held during the extended day.
• Attend school-sponsored activities (e.g., Back to School Night, Open House, programs, activities) agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty, consistent with the teachers’ contract.
• Contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well‑being.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.

• Highly qualified with required competency in Earth Science content area.
• Earth Science educator license and grade‑level (8‑12) licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Bachelor’s Degree with the appropriate license.
• Master’s Degree with the appropriate content‑area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
