Job Description
Responsibilities for the Elementary Classroom Teacher at Springfield Public Schools.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated locations and times.
- Plans programs meeting the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
- Guides learning toward district curriculum goals, setting and communicating clear objectives.
- Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon supervisor request.
- Uses variety of instructional techniques and media adequate for the location and student groups.
- Implements the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
- Assesses student progress regularly, provides reports, and communicates with parents as needed.
- Maintains accurate, complete, correct records as required by law, policy, and regulations.
- Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks district specialist assistance when required.
- Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Follows SPS code of conduct and develops fair rules of classroom behavior.
- Plans and supervises paraprofessional assignments and makes evaluations.
- Engages in professional growth programs meeting district requirements.
- Participates in teacher evaluation process, contributing to evaluations.
- Attends building and district meetings for communication and decision‑making.
- Attends school‑sponsored activities such as Back to School Night, Open House, etc.
- Contributes to district decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum, and well‑being.
- Maintains and improves professional competence.
- Highly qualified with competency in the content area.
- Appropriate elementary educator license (Grades 1‑6) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license.
- Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred or expected within 5 years.

Salary: $54,541.40 – $88,258.60 (Batch Unit Salary Schedule)
